If you’re into that sort of thing
You can head over here to download it.
I just got it installed, and I’ll be updating this post as I find stuff.
In case you’re curious, this is a whole new install, not just an update. I had to reinstall some stuff to get it to show up in this version, namely Red Gate SQL Prompt.

I’ll be semi-live-blogging and updating this post as I find stuff!
Make like a good DBA and hit F5 repeatedly!
Updates
So uh, you can still set up a Shrink Database task via maintenance plans. Real cool.

Oh, there’s also a bug that Brent found.
It crops up when you try to back up a database with the GUI.

In case you’re wondering, you can still use Autoclose, Autoshrink, and Priority Boost. You can take the pleats out of the khakis…
Alright, so two crashes and some perilously long waits for stuff to load later, I’m gonna call it a day on live blogging stuff.
Time to go hunt down those new adaptive join operators in query plans!
If anyone is missing Utility Explorer in SSMS 2017, there’s a Connect Item over here you can vote on to bring it back.
Thanks for reading!

There seems to be some issue with installing 17.x if you had rc1 installed before. rc1 is uninstalled but when trying to install I get setup blocked becase a prerelease version is installed. I did this on two different win10 machines. Anyone else have this issue?
Martin, I had the same issue. I found this link (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fdaa7283-43d9-4fb7-bd1a-d21ff1159c4e/ssms-17-install-with-ssms-17-rc3-already-installed?forum=sqltools&prof=required) where I needed to remove the SSMS folder too, then it worked for me
Cheers MikeC, removing the 140 folder under ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server’ and ‘C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server’ did the trick.
I too had the issue even after performing some variouse fixes. This solved it (delete “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\140\Tools\ “)

strange, no issues making backups using GUI on my side. Have images. Will Share. Promise.
I see the Connect Item has a repro. Not sure if that’s Dave Dustin’s response. Seems a pretty simple bug and similar to what happened with a SQL 2016 SSMS release last year. I suppose it won’t take long before its confirmed by Microsoft and corrected with a 17.0.1 release.
So far so good.
Behaves a lot better and faster than SSMS 2016 so far. No bugs yet. Backup and restore was fine. Didn’t look much further but have been using it for a little while.
Behaves faster than 2016. Utility explorer is gone?
I just installed this on a server after clean install of 2016. The 2016 installation for management tools link pointed me right to the SSMS 2017 download. I am concerned to now see a whole bunch of CTP 2.0 versions of configuration utilities etc. I think I’m going to uninstall and go back to the latest SSMS 2016 for now.
This server is for our DBA team and centralized monitoring, but is also considered production.
The Download page should clearly state that parts of the SSMS 2017 install are still baking (CTP).
I had seen a reference from Derik Hammer saying that it shows lots of references to vNext.
Amyhone have a clue anbout when the utility explorer will be added to SSMS 2017
No.
What happened to the Utility Explorer? Has anyone filed a bug to Microsoft for that?
cobrow filed a bug for the utility eplorer issue, please upvote it to get it on Microsofts radar to be fixed with next release:

Hi Ryan,
One link is enough. I’ll update the blog post with the Connect item for anyone interested.
Thanks!
With the utility explorer issue is it best to have both 16.5.3 and 17 together unless the future 17.1 includes utility explorer?

Have you tried the download button at the link? We don’t host the SSMS download, Microsoft does. If you’re having problems, you should contact them.
Thanks!
Facing issue while trying to select top 1000 VIA the GUI while connecting to cluster name
ERROR :
Invalid Urn filter on server level: filter must be empty, or server attribute must be equal with the true server name. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Working when you connect directly to the node name
Guy – OK, cool. For support, go ahead and check with Microsoft. Thanks!
Anyone know if there is or will be a 64bit version? I dowloaded and installed SSMS 17.1 with no problem but there were no options for 32 or 64 and looking at task manager while SSMS is running I can see it installed 32bit.
No, Microsoft hasn’t said anything about plans for that.
microsoft says not supported for 32bit.
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/3133939/ssms-r17-installation-package-is-not-supported-by-this-processor-type
Whoa – I forgot 32 bit OS’s are even a thing. Why are you using that?
