Who’s Hiring in the Microsoft Data Platform Community? April 2023 Edition

Who's Hiring
7 Comments

Is your company hiring for a database position as of April 2023? Do you wanna work with the kinds of people who read this blog? Let’s set up some rapid networking here.

If your company is hiring, leave a comment. The rules:

  • Your comment must include the job title, and either a link to the full job description, or the text of it. It doesn’t have to be a SQL Server DBA job, but it does have to be related to databases. (We get a pretty broad readership here – it can be any database.)
  • An email address to send resumes, or a link to the application process – if I were you, I’d put an email address because you may want to know that applicants are readers here, because they might be more qualified than the applicants you regularly get.
  • Please state the location and include REMOTE and/or VISA when that sort of candidate is welcome. When remote work is not an option, include ONSITE.
  • Please only post if you personally are part of the hiring company—no recruiting firms or job boards. Only one post per company. If it isn’t a household name, please explain what your company does.
  • Commenters: please don’t reply to job posts to complain about something. It’s off topic here.
  • Readers: please only email if you are personally interested in the job.

If your comment isn’t relevant or smells fishy, I’ll delete it. If you have questions about why your comment got deleted, or how to maximize the effectiveness of your comment, contact me.

Each month, I publish a new post in the Who’s Hiring category here so y’all can get the latest opportunities.

  • Tom @ tholden@cureis.com https://www.cureis.com I need an accomplished SQL Server AppDev DBA that can lead in that work, and work well alongside several people I care about.

This is a published “on Brent’s job board, first” position. 100% remote. US-based. Contract position (part-time perhaps at first) and certainly an FTE conversion possibility if you display ability to meet the two criteria above, and you decide you really want this to be your permanent home.

Our company is unique, our services are boutique, our work is important, we are full-service to our clients, and our people are brilliant. We are experts in the managed-care (MCO) healthcare insurance domain which is growing, and so are we.

Job Description: Utmost priority, you’ll improve T-SQL and you’ll hand hold the improvements through all environments and into production, together with engineering. Second priority, you’ll mentor. You’ll teach the cost-based optimizer, in the context of our application, to three Development DBAs, and me, and the engineering staff, in that order, starting with the data staff. The first priority is the priority. The ideal candidate will be confident in running the First Responder Kit, reproducing and explaining things in need of improvement, creating test harnesses, describing and implementing improvements, and propagating the changes through all environments, together with the data team, and the engineering team.

I can explain specific things to fix because I’ve been through several of Brent’s courses and use the First Responder Kit personally. I was on the engineering team for a decade before my current position.

For the past 17 years, we have been using our own technology to solve business problems. We don’t sell licenses and walk away. We fix their challenges with our business services. Our business services make use of our software. We deploy some On Prem. We deploy some hosted.

The more you know about infrastructure the better. The more you know about ETL, the better. If you know healthcare claim and encounter data, great! If not, that’s OK.

(I have a lifetime Mastering series license under my personal email and just purchased Fundamentals for three DBAs through a work budget.) Email me and start a dialog.

  • I’m hiring a new SQL Server Database Administrator. My Name is Will, I am the hiring manager and if you join, you will work under me. I’ve been a DBA over a decade and a (working) DBA Manager at 2 companies now.

Company: World Wide Express (WWEX) (there will be references to Globaltranz as the 2 companies merged about 1 year ago.)

Items for clarity, as these questions have come up:
This role is for a “standard” Database Administrator, meaning someone with experience placing them within a Junior DBA and a Senior DBA, i.e. 2-5 years experience as a Database Administrator.

The position is Full Time and remote. The LinkedIn posting (below) is list the position as hybrid as recruitment initially mislabeled the role as hybrid. It’s been corrected on the company website, but it seems that LinkedIn only scrapes the postings one time.

This role is new as we’ve expanded our scope beyond what the team previously covered. The environment is multi-cloud with systems in Azure, AWS, data center and a few server closets.

    Technologies managed:
SQL Server (roughly 85%+ of position’s duties), ElasticSearch, CosmosDB, Azure SQL, SQL Server on EC2, Amazon RDS, Aurora MySQL and growing.

If interested, please use the posting below and it will direct you to our company portal.

    Thank you!
