Now Hiring: SQL Server Consultants

tl;dr – we’re looking for SQL Server database administrators who want to make the jump into consulting from home.

About Us

We’re a boutique consulting firm that specializes in high performance, highly available database servers.

We listen to a company’s pain points, find the root cause, and show them how to get permanent pain relief as quickly as possible. To get an idea of what we do, watch the video on our home page.

We sell a SQL Critical Care® package that’s 2-3 days long. This means each consultant does one or two new (or returning) clients per week, getting to the root of their performance and availability pains, and training them to get permanent pain relief.

We don’t have one “type” – we’ve hired people with all kinds of backgrounds – but for this round, we’re looking for production DBAs.

About You: What We’re Looking For

You’re a SQL Server database administrator with a few years experience. You read these three bullets, and think, “that’s me!”

  • You’re comfortable troubleshooting production servers under pressure
  • You like learning about interpreting query plans
  • You’ve designed indexes to solve production problems (and maybe found one or two cases where your solution wasn’t perfect along the way)

In your time as a DBA, you’ve earned at least 4-5 of these badges of honor:

  • Installed and patched at least a dozen SQL Servers
  • Troubleshooting a cluster that has gone out of control
  • Failed over a production database to a disaster recovery location, and back
  • Worked with developers to figure out why their app can’t connect to the database
  • Asked questions about performance issues through the SQL Server, Windows, virtualization, and storage layers
  • Implemented change control to improve your patching process
  • Compared monitoring software packages and set one up to your liking
  • Explained a database concept to a room of non-technical managers
  • Giving back via volunteering, blogging, and/or presenting to the database community

  • You’re relentlessly upbeat and fun to be around
  • You build bridges rather than point fingers

You don’t have to worry if you don’t have:

  • A track record of presenting at conferences
  • A 400-level understanding of SQL Server internals
  • The syntax for the MERGE command memorized
  • Consulting experience
