    I started PowerShell by learning it in a “classroom” setting. That is, I set aside some time to learn it and used the Microsoft Virtual Academy to learn the basics. From there I ended up writing a wrapper and custom cmdlets for a CI/DLM project for our deployments.

    After that I looked for projects where I needed to touch several instances from one location. PowerShell handles those connection way easier than setting up a bunch of linked servers. It’s my goto tool now for that kind of work or for anything I’m doing outside of SQL Server. For instance – refreshing lower environments from PROD requires some permissions shuffling, DB settings updates, etc. PowerShell was perfect for this.
