Blitz Result: Database Settings Changed Away from Defaults

SQL Server has a lot of knobs and buttons, and us human beings just love pushing buttons and tweaking knobs. SQL Server needs a dog to prevent us from touching ’em.

This portion of sp_Blitz® checks sys.databases looking for settings that have been changed away from their defaults.

Target Recovery Time is a Little Weird.

SQL Server has flipped the Target Recovery Time default setting around back and forth between 0 and 60. People have seen it at different numbers in the wild, and Microsoft’s SSDT is reported to tweak it too. We’re fine with either of those numbers – but if that value is important to you, you may want to dig deeper.

To Fix the Problem

Make sure the setting is actually improving performance or reliability. If it was an accident, set it back to the defaults and go feed the dog.
