We’ll sum it up in a 106 second video about our SQL Critical Care®:
In tomorrow’s post, we’ll talk about why we made a video. In the meantime, enjoy. I know I certainly do – I’ve re-watched this dozens of times, and I still giggle. It’s on our home page, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it and giggle too.

Awesome video!! AND SO TRUE !!!
So who wrote the script?
Thanks folks!
Kevin – we’ll actually be talking about that in tomorrow’s post. They’re really good.
LOL!
First thought: Your server has e-BOL-a.
Nice vid, makes me want to give you money.
Niiice!! good work!
It was interesting. My first thought was who the target audience is.
I’m a DBA and did not feel pandered to, so I don’t think I’m the target audience. I also didn’t feel any kind of corporate level vibe, maybe they are off the list because they have their own teams of DBAs already. Which just leaves smaller businesses? Is the feel of this video what they are looking for?
Other notes:
– I was thinking about who The Specialist is in real life. The closest I can come are those people who have long left a company but are still contracting back for emergency situations. (An older example would be relatives, but I think that for any place that can afford SQL Server that’s pretty unlikely – or at least I hope so).
– Large IT firms: so true. Tentacled 5D Cthulhu monsters, unless you want your soul eaten don’t let them in. [Mis]management aside, you’re buying a timeshare of 1/1000th of a DBA who probably even really gave a damn up until their 10th rote “health check” and summary report of the week. This makes me sad just thinking about it.
I’ll admit I did fume for a little while over the “no formal training” part. Hiring criteria comes up a lot in the forums and it usually comes down to experience first and community involvement second; I often even have to argue even for the merits of certification! But formality of training? Never… which leads me to the conclusion that it’s about product differentiation more than anything else.
Cody – great questions! The answers are covered in today’s blog post.
Total Kick-ass video!
Congrats!!
