SQLCruise 2011 Registrations Open

We’re open for bookings!

SQLCruise Classroom at Sea

SQLCruise Classroom at Sea

March 6th – Miami to Grand Cayman and Cozumel for 5 days – this cruise will provide introductions to high availability, performance tuning, DMVs, and of course the team-building, blog-building, and you-building that SQLCruise is known for.  This cruise is aimed at database administrators who’ve been working with SQL Server for 1-3 years.

May 29th – Seattle to Alaska for 7 days SOLD OUT! – this cruise will be a deeper dive into HA, tuning, SAN storage, and MDVs.  This one will be technical alright – this is aimed at DBAs with more than 5 years experience working with SQL Server.  I want to cover the kinds of topics you don’t usually get to play with as a DBA, but that really affect your performance and recoverability.  It’s not every day you get to spend quality time talking SAN internals, and that’s what this cruise will be like.

From my Alaska cruise this year

From my Alaska cruise this year

Spots are going fast already, and I credit that to the experience our cruisers had the first time around:

“Without a connection to work I could learn and focus without distraction. Not being able to disconnect myself has ruined many training opportunities for me so I was excited to be able to chuck my cell phone into my room and go.” – Crys Manson on SQL Cruise I Miss You (and yes, she signed up already for the 2011 Alaska cruise)

“Third, and I can’t stress this enough, you not only get back an employee with a deeper understanding of how the training applies to your environment but you get one that now brings a whole team of people to call upon if the situation arises.  What do I mean?  When, the social aspects of this tight net group and the dynamics that were developed in five days were pretty amazing.” – John Robel on Where has all the good training gone (and yes, he and his wife Yanni were the very first to sign up for the 2011 Alaska cruise)

It’s not just repeat signups either – we’ve already got new bookings from Colin Stasiuk, Gareth Swanepoel, Gavin Payne, Neil Hambly, and more.

Update – we sold out the spots on the Alaska cruise in one day! Spots are still available on the Miami cruise though.

Get on over to SQLCruise.com and check out what we’re up to.  See on you on the boat!

Well, you won’t know until you try! We heard some funny stories on SQLCruise 2010 about attendees who were stunned when their boss said yes. Plus, they might just have training money left over in the budget right now!

As Brent said, it is worth a try. My boss had training budget last year they allowed us to use and this year he said there is a good chance they can cover part of it. Even if they say no, I think it is good to show that you’re interested in training and that it is important to you. It may make a difference next time.

I could sit and write here all those reasons why I think it would be an great idea to sign up and join me and all the others already lucky enough to be going on the Alaska SQLCruise.. but I think I just did – its both SQL & Cruise.. what more is to be said

BTW there 3 of us from UK coming over for this one, I’m sure that says we are either somewhat crazy (maybe true in my case) or we know a good deal when we see it + we have international airfares to cover (with airport taxes just been increased 50%)..

Can’t wait.. but will have to
