And no, that’s not an April Fool’s joke.
Tomorrow (Thursday), I’ll be doing a Pain of the Week webcast with my former boss at Southern Wine & Spirits, Don Duncan. The topic of the webcast is “Getting Your Boss to Say Yes” – how you can convince your boss to buy the tools you want. Don and I will be talking about what IT management is like, what kinds of arguments are the most successful when talking to managers, and what kinds of things you can do to better your odds.
To prep for the webcast, I went back through my old files, and I got a chuckle out of some of ‘em. When I wanted something, I built these elaborate presentations, documents and spreadsheets to win management over, and it paid off: I got a ton of tools. Some of my coworkers got frustrated because they wanted tools too, but they couldn’t get ‘em approved. In the webcast, we’ll be talking about some of those battles.
