Free SQL Server Webcasts Tomorrow

I’ll be speaking at a couple of PASS chapter meetings tomorrow.  If you’re near Kalamazoo, Michigan, swing on in and say hi.  If you’re not, you can drop in on either of the virtual meetings:

March 3 – West Michigan SQL Server User Group – Kalamazoo, MI
SAN Tips for First-Time Users

Storage area networking: the three words that fill database administrators with fear and confusion.  If you think of your SAN as an expensive black box where you put data in and it doesn’t always come back out as fast as you want, then attend this presentation.  I’ll explain the origins of storage area networking, what you have to look out for as a DBA, and how to talk to your SAN admins and salespeople with confidence and clarity.

The meeting will be at 6pm at the Blue Granite Consulting Corporate Offices, and food & drink will be provided:
4664 Campus Drive, Suite 100
Kalamazoo, MI 49008

If you can’t make it to Kalamazoo, you won’t get free pizza or t-shirts, but you can still join in at:
LiveMeeting – https://www.livemeeting.com/cc/usergroups/join
Meeting ID: JQ3DZ4
Entry Code: 2HN;#s?wK

March 3 – Swiss PASS ChapterZürich, Switzerland
Perfmon and Profiler 101 (Presenting remotely)

These two tools are the key to successful performance tuning.  Brent will show how to get started with these tools, how to slice and dice the results, and even how to data mine the results to look for interesting trends.

I’m presenting this remotely, and you can attend in LiveMeeting for free.  On Tuesday at noon Eastern time, click on this LiveMeeting link and watch the fun unfold.  To hear the audio, you’ll need to dial into 888-233-4650, passcode 391254.  If you’re in Switzerland, call 0 800 899 959, passcode 391254.  I’ll take questions over Twitter and in the Q&A button inside LiveMeeting.

For first-time LiveMeeting users, check your machine ahead of time to make sure you’ve got the prerequisite software – otherwise it takes around 5-10 minutes to load, which feels like 20-30 minutes when you’re missing a presentation.

Any idea how long the Perfmom and Profiler presentation will be? I wish I could stop by and see you in Kazoo. I've been missing West Michigan lately.

They should both be around an hour, although if there's questions I'll take those and run a little longer.

Was the meeting recorded? I could not connect to it via Live Meeting, kept giving me an "error on the server".

Have you blogged about the SAN Tips for First-Time Users. I just got handed several servers that use a SAN and I would like to have a better idea on whats happening behind the scenes.

No, I haven't blogged that one – I just give it as a presentation from time to time. Keep your eyes peeled! :-)
